City Cemetery Association to meet

The annual general membership meeting of the Mount Vernon Cemetery Association will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 25 in First National Bank’s Century Room, across from the fountain on Kaufman St. in Mount Vernon.

Food manager course offered

The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Titus County will be offering a Certified Food Manager Course on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 23 and 24.

Volunteers needed at Alamo

Volunteers are needed to help at a haunted house which will be part of the Alamo Mission Museum’s annual Halloween celebration. It will open at 7:30 p.m. for three nights from October 24 through October 26 for those looking for a little fright in their lives.

Lowe’s RDC to sponsor benefit meal

Lowe’s Regional Distribution Center will provide a benefit meal on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 18 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $5 per plate for three brisket tacos with pico/lime/cilantro, corn and frito salad and a bottled water or $6 for meal with dessert.

Denton Baptist to celebrate 150th year

The Denton Missionary Baptist Church will celebrate its 150th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, October 21. Their morning worship will open the day at 11 a.m. with local pastor, Rev. Dwight White bringing the message.

Alzheimer Support Group to meet locally

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at the Franklin County Library on the square.

Alamo Mission Museum Halloween Party set

The 13th annual Halloween Party and Hayride at the Alamo Mission Museum has been set for Saturday, Oct. 27 and the Haunted School House will be open Fridays, October 19 and 26.

XTO, Carter, Postell honored by local 4-H Club

Recognition and awards were presented to members and adult  leaders/supporters at the annual Franklin County 4-H Banquet Oct. 4.XTO Energy, Pat Carter, and Jaci Postell were honored by the youth of the Franklin County 4-H Club for their support and leadership to the club and its members during the organization’s annual awards banquet Thursday, October 4.
