Alzheimer Support Group to meet locally

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Franklin County Library on the square.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness month

Texas A&M Agrilife Extension is recognizing April as National Distracted Driving Awareness month, a time to raise awareness of the dangers associated with distracted driving and to encourage Texans to put down their cell phones while driving.

Banks-Barton reunion Sunday

Stations of the Cross planned

Members of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church are inviting all Christians to join together as one body in celebrating the “Stations of The Cross” on the downtown plaza on Good Friday, April 14 at 3 p.m.

Relay for Life luminaria available

A special luminaria ceremony during the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Franklin and Wood Counties remembers those lost to cancer and honors those who have battled and won.

Egg hunt planned at Alamo

The Alamo Mission Museum will be the location of an egg hunt and games on Easter Sunday, April 16. A hot dog meal can be purchased, games will follow lunch, and then the egg hunt. For details, see the April 6 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
