Democrats select state delegates

The Franklin County Democratic Party met Saturday, March 22 to select delegates to the Texas Democratic Party’s state convention. Those selected as delegates were Minnie Birdsong, Edward (Mike) Parnell, Ben Dickson and Libby Aden.

Computer classes to be offered at library

The Franklin County Library has scheduled a series of computer classes that will be offered every Tuesday for six weeks starting Tuesday, April 1 at 5:30 p.m. For a listing of classes and what they entail, see the March 27 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Cancer survivor reception planned

The Franklin County Relay for Life committee is planning a Cancer Survivor’s Dinner for Tuesday, April 29 at 6 p.m. Cancer survivors and their caregivers are encouraged to attend this celebration of life and hope which will be conducted at the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon.

Kid Fish event is this Saturday

The fourth annual Kid Fish will be Saturday, March 29 at the Jordan’s Blueberry Farm in southern Franklin County from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. About 100 kids have preregistered for the event.

AARP to meet March 25

Jacqueline Bateman will be the speaker at the Franklin County American Association of Retired Persons Chapter 3703 meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 at the Senior Citizens Center. For more information about the event, see the March 20 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Cowboy church celebrates anniversary

The Sulphur River Cowboy Church will be celebrating their eighth anniversary with an event on Saturday, March 29. Included in the event will be pony rides and mechanical bull rides beginning at 3 p.m. Bingo with $1 cards still start at 5 p.m., as will serving of chili and stew.

Republican state delegates selected

Around 60 people attended the Franklin County Republican Party precinct and county conventions Saturday, March 15. The seven delegates to represent the county at the state convention

Grief seminar set at Macon Baptist

Members of the Macon Baptist Church will be hosts for a Grief Seminar Wednesdays March 26 and April 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. Dan Boler will be the facilitator for this free seminar.

Health Fair Thursday, March 20

The 2014 Franklin County Health Fair is Thursday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center. The event will provide health care information to people of all ages about a range of health topics.
