Shakespeare Club to view student film

The Shakespeare Club and the Franklin County Arts Alliance are again joining forces to bring the latest film by Northeast Texas Community College students to Mount Vernon.

Food drive

Kids Under Construction held their annual Food Drive to benefit Franklin County Food Bank in January.  Preschool and school age students collected 1,160 items total.

Alzheimer Support Group to meet locally

The Alzheimer Support Group for the Mount Vernon area will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 19 at the Franklin County Library on the square.

Annual meeting called for Friends of the Library

The Friends of the Library  organization will conduct its annual membership meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 17 at the library.  A slate of officers will be presented for election to serve in 2015.

Alamo officers elected at annual meeting

Officers were elected for 2015 at the annual meeting of the members of the Alamo Mission Museum last month. The 30 members present voted to retain the existing slate of officers.

The AARP Foundation is again providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program.

Local cemeteries to be the topic at Genealogy meeting

The cemeteries of Franklin County will be the topic of guest speakers at the Franklin County Genealogy Society  meeting on Monday, February 16 at 7 p.m.
