MVHS class of 1958It was a weekend full of reunions in Mount Vernon with several Mount Vernon High School graduating classes coming together. The MVHS class of 1958 met Saturday afternoon in the Community Room at the First Baptist Church.

The kids had the opportunity to make a donation to the Rotary Club’s End Polio Now effort and get their pinkie fingers painted purple the same as children in third world countries do when receiving the polio vaccine.

Rotary Club sponsors Purple Pinkie Day at middle school

Members of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club will visit Mount Vernon Middle School for a Purple Pinkie Day Friday, October 5 in an effort to eliminate polio worldwide.

Baird, Burton are Rotary Students for October

Ayla Burton, Brian BairdAyla Burton and Brian Baird were named as the Rotary Students of the Month for October 2018 at Mount Vernon High School. Both students are seniors.

Class of ‘54 and ‘55 to meet

The Mount Vernon High School classes of 1954 and 1955 are planning a joint class reunion for Saturday, October 13.

Talsma Dairy takes top honors at Franklin County Hay Show

David Maxton and Jouwert Talsma presents awards to hay show winners Hendrik Talsma of Talsma Dairy and Auke Plantinga of Pleasant Hill Dairy.The Talsma Dairy earned the top places for their samples in the 2018 Mount Vernon Saltillo Young Farmer Hay Show on Saturday, October 6. The top 20 hay samples were auctioned earning $7,150.

Rupe graduates with master of arts degree

Morgan Eatherly Rupe and her border collie RioMorgan Eatherly Rupe recently graduated Suma cum Laude with a master of arts degree in professional counseling from Texas State University.

The annual Mount Vernon / Saltillo Young Farmer’s Hay Show will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, October 6 at the Young Farmers Livestock Pavilion on FM 115.
