Six advanced after local Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest

Patriot’s Pen Essay winners, front row, Kalie Dunavant,  Cynthia Castillo, Aidan Matthews, back row, Peyton Steen, Jami Reed, and Michael Duck.Six junior high students were selected as winners from the local Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest and advanced to the district level. The contest is sponsored annually by the Franklin County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3992.

More than $30,000 raised for Rotary scholarshps

The Rotary Club of Mount Vernon raised more than $30,000 during their banquet and scholarship gala on Saturday, November 5. Proceeds will benefit the club’s Motivational Scholarship Fund.

Zombie run

The Class of 2019 sponsored a Zombie 5K Run on Saturday, October 29.The Class of 2019 sponsored a Zombie 5K Run on Saturday, October 29. The group of about 50 people wore make up and clothing to look like zombies and ran a route through the north western portion of the city of Mount Vernon.
