Prayer service set for school campuses

The Ministerial Alliance of Franklin County is sponsoring a community wide prayer service and prayer walk on Sunday evening, Aug. 25. This non-denominational event is for the entire community. For more details about the event, see the August 22 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Ice Cream Social Wednesday, August 21

Members of the Mount Vernon Parent Teacher Organization will be hosts for a Back to School Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the elementary and intermediate schools.

Kick off set for CHEMPA group

The annual Kick-Off Party for CHEMPA, the Christian Home Educators of the Mount Pleasant Area, will be Thursday, August 29. The event will be from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Dellwood Park pavilion

Dancer graduates from Navy camp

Navy Seaman Apprentice Samantha A. Dancer, a 2012 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. For more information, see the Aug. 8 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Dental hygiene available at NTCC teaching clinic

The fall semester is about to start at Northeast Texas Community College. This means that dental hygiene students will be back in the clinic providing low-cost services to the community as of August 27.
