Texas Highway 37 at the Sulphur River Bridge was closed about 10 a.m. this morning by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Water began running onto the south bound lane of traffic around 8 a.m. and is continuing to rise. The river is not expected to crest until around 11 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, March 21. Another 8-10 hours could be required after the crest for the water to recede.
Travelers are urged to take alternative routes, either Hwy. 271 from the east or Highways 19/24 north from Sulphur Springs.
Check this website for updates as to when the highway is reopened.
