Rodeo queen contestants offer rodeo, prize, dinner tickets

Contestants in the 2018 Franklin County Sheriff’s Posse’s queen competition are offering tickets to help pay expenses related to the contest as part of the annual Labor Day Weekend Rodeo.

Harvest on Main tickets on sale Friday

Tickets for the Harvest on Main dinner, set for Saturday, October 20, will be available for  purchase beginning at 8 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, August 10, as part of the Mount Vernon Food & Wine Festival, which continues through October 27.

Watermelon Day is Friday, August 3

Free ice cold watermelon will be served to the public beginning at 10 a.m. Friday, August 3 on the square in Mount Vernon.

Food Bank and Kindred at Home partner for food drive

The Community Food Bank of Franklin County is partnering with Kindred at Home for their Annual Food Drive.

Pageant tickets on sale now

Miss Mount Vernon contestants took part in their first evening practice Monday, July 30 at the Mount Vernon ISD auditorium. Above, the Little and Petite groups are shown. The 50th annual Miss Mount Vernon Scholarship Pageant has attracted 52 contestants, according to Heather Bales, event coordinator for the sponsoring Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

Bull riding event Saturday

The Double R Ranch will be the location for a bull riding competition beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday, August 11.

Summer Reading winners

In the front row, Kalea Cox, Katrina Cox, and Samantha Edge were first place winners. Other winners in the second row were Jose Wood, Andy Anderson, Bella Anderson, Anabella Talsma, and Kylee Glasco.Winners in the Summer Reading Program were awarded prizes during closing ceremonies on July 28.
