St. Clair endowment awards $9,000 to local charities

Second Saturday to spring into action

The start of Second Saturday celebrations will spring into action April 12. The day  will be filled with activities, good food, and things to see and do. Booths are free at the event for local craftsmen, growers and sellers. For more information, see the March 20 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Century 21 agents receive awards

Several agents with Century 21 Butler Real Estate Services recently received awards for their accomplishments in sales for 2013. Ann Holland, Myra Marr, Ralph Robertson and Wendy Rogers were honored for their sales production.

Hensley, Auringer honored with Silver Beaver awards

Curtis Hensley and Dan AuringerCurtis Hensley and Dan Auringer of Franklin County were presented with the Silver Beaver award for their outstanding service to scouting. The awards were presented earlier this month at the annual banquet of the NeTseO (Northeast Texas Southeastern Oklahoma) Trails Council of Boy Scouts of America.

Key Club Bake-off set for April 12

The Mount Vernon Key Club will be sponsoring its 11th annual bake-off on Saturday, April 12.  The event will be conducted at the Cultural Arts Center at the corner of Rusk and Dallas streets in Mount Vernon.

Property tax office closed Thursday

The Franklin County Propety Tax office will be closed on Thursday, March 20, 2014 for computer maintenance. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 21. The Motor Vehicle division of the tax office will remain open.

Health Fair Thursday

The 2014 Franklin County Health Fair is Thursday, March 20 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center. More than 25 area health organizations have reserved space for the event.

Easter Hams available first come, first serve

The Easter Hams from the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will be available this year on a first come, first serve basis.  Members of the local department are taking orders for “Easter Hams” to be picked up at the city’s fire station
