Property tax office closed Thursday

The Franklin County Propety Tax office will be closed on Thursday, March 20, 2014 for computer maintenance. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. on Friday, March 21. The Motor Vehicle division of the tax office will remain open.

Deadline soon for Kid Fish sign-up

The deadline to preregister children to participate in the Kid Fish is Saturday, March 15. Kid Fish is a unique fishing event created to provide a hands-on fishing experience for children. For details on how to register for this event, see the March 13 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

The Easter Hams from the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Department will be available this year on a first come, first serve basis.  Members of the local department are taking orders for “Easter Hams” to be picked up at the city’s fire station

Members of the Franklin County Genealogical Society celebrated paying off their building loan Members of the Franklin County Genealogical Society celebrated paying off their building loan on Monday, March 10. The mortgage for $20,000 was issued in July 1999 by First National Bank and was renewed several times.

Food handling, law workshops Wednesday

The Cottage Food Law and Food Handlers workshops, which were cancelled last month due to inclement weather, have been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 12.

Relay for Life seeking teams for annual event

The seventh annual Relay for Life event is seeking teams to help fight against cancer. The format for the 2014  has changed. Instead of being overnight, it will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.
