Relay for Life raises $50,000

Cancer survivors led the first lap in the annual Relay for Life celebration.The seventh annual Franklin County Relay for Life began Friday, May 4 at Don Meredith Stadium with $33,000 already collected.

Historical Association presents Tombstone Tales

Garrett Greenberg, Ginna Pryor, Pat Wright, John Bradberry, Tina Fountain, and Cynthia Loftis portrayed members of the J.L. Rutherford family at the Tombstone Tales for the Franklin County Historical AssociationTheir second annual Tombstone Tales featured 21 individuals from Mount Vernon’s oldest history.

Girl, Cub Scouts help with Arbor Day planting

City employee  Rocky Bounds, left, helped break up the clods of dirt, while Julie Walker holds the new tree straight and Spencer Bartko and Laramie Shortnacy help with the replacement of dirt.Approximately 30 people attended the sixth annual Arbor Day celebration and tree planting at Little Creek Park.  The event was conducted Friday, April 26.
