Property deeds gifted to non-profit groups

Pepper Puryear, center, hands over the deeds to property at 822 Leftwich to Whitney Asay and Anna Hood of the Bountiful House, at left, and to board members of the Community Food Bank of Franklin County, at right, represented by Jim Stinson, Mary Ann Gordineer, Frankie Capers, Richard Lee, Dorothy Young, Joe Faulkner, Willie Bane and Ernie Snapka. It was not an April Fool’s Day joke when the Community Food Bank of Franklin County and the Bountiful House were gifted with deeds to the property once occupied by Hilltop Baptist Church at 822 Leftwich St. on Monday, April 1. Both are non-profit organizations.

The property, 6.8 acres of land and two buildings, reverted to the Rehoboth Baptist Association when Hilltop Country Church ceased to be a local church in 2018. The association then deeded the property to the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon. To learn more about these organizations, see the April 4 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
