City awards contract for wastewater treatment improvement

The City of Mount Vernon Council awarded a $421,915 bid for improvements to be made at the wastewater treatment plant to Heritage Constructors, Inc. of Texarkana, Texas.

Clinic not affected by closing

The ETMC First Physicians Clinic in Mount Vernon will not be negatively affected by the closing of the local hospital operated by ETMC. It will continue to operate with Dr. Jean Latortue and nurse practitioner Delisa Brooks providing care.

Federal agencies did not receive county’s 2012 W-2s

Franklin County Justice of the Peace Jim Alford raised concerns over approximately ninety 2012 W-2 forms for county elected officials and employees. Although the individuals received their copies of the W-2s, the forms sent to  federal agencies were not received.

Cook, land comissioner candidate, to visit city

John Cook, the Democratic nominee for Texas Land Commissioner, is bringing his campaign to Mount Vernon and Franklin County. He will be on the north side of the square in downtown about noon Tuesday, August 19.
