Historical commission recognized by state for distinguished service

Franklin County Judge Paul Lovier presented the Texas Historical Commission’s  Distinguished Service Award to B. F. Hicks, local commission chairman,  members of the board and volunteers last MondayThe Texas Historical Commission (THC) recognized the Franklin County Historical Commission (FCHC) with a Distinguished Service Award for the 2012 year of service.

Remote location keeps train derailment obscured for days

Rails extend into the air at the site of a train derailment in western Franklin County.The remote location of a train derailment on Saturday, July 6 kept the incident obscured for days. There were no injuries when three box cars derailed about a mile east of the Franklin/Hopkins county line and half a mile north of Hwy. 67.
