Members of the Mount Vernon City Council will now be elected by the place system. The current council unanimously voted for the ordinance putting the new system in place at their regular monthly meeting Monday.
Candidates will still come from anywhere inside the city’s limits, known as at-large. However, candidates must declare which of the five seats they wish to be considered as a candidate. Three will be elected on odd years, and two will be elected along with the mayor in elections on even numbered years.
