Three Texas power plants closing in 2018

Three Texas coal fired power plants - Monticello, Big Brown and Sandow along with the Three Oaks mine that supports the latter - are being closed in early 2018, taking with them approximately 850 jobs.

The company’s first announcement on October 6 was that the Monticello Power Plant in neighboring Titus County would be “retired” after 40 years of operations. The closure of operations there is estimated to impact 200 local area employees. Plant operations are expected to halt on January 4, 2018.
