Railport name tweak, officers elected, look at possible operator

A more regional name for the proposed rail port project, a look at a possible operator for the rail port, and election of officers for the Mount Vernon Economic Development Corporation were heard at the EDC’s Tuesday evening, May 29, meeting.

Members of the Mount Vernon City Council and EDC met together to hear the presentation by Blacklands Railroad president Wayne Defebaugh. The company serves as the “short-line operator” for the local rail district, the North East Texas Rural Rail Transportation District.
