Rail transport still cheapest method

The transport of both bulk and containerized products on land by rail over distances greater than 100 miles is the cheapest method for businesses and ultimately for the cost of items to consumers according to figures from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Up to two 18-wheel trucks could be eliminated from roadways for transport of containerized products for each rail well-car. For more information on this topic, see the June 21 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
