Runoff primary elections rescheduled, local to be decided

Gov. Greg Abbott last week issued a proclamation postponing the runoff primary elections and allowing political subdivisions to put off their elections in conjunction with the state’s ongoing efforts to mitigate the spread of COVID -19.

The governor postponed the runoff primary election until July 14, 2020.
Two days earlier, a governor’s proclamation suspending provisions of the Texas Election Code to allow local political subdivisions to postpone their May 2 elections until Nov. 3, 2020. The Mount Vernon City Council had plans to discuss whether to postpone or continue with the regular May 2 date for the mayoral and council elections.
