Workers with Railworks use a backhoe to replace railroad ties along a section of track near the railroad overpass on Hwy. 37 north. So far this year 701 ties and ballasts have replaced. The extent of needed repairs along the North East Texas Rural Rail District’s line was made known after a recent track inspection by the Federal Railroad Administration, which outlined 121 deficiencies along the track.

Of those, 92 are Class 1 issues that must be addressed in 30 days. Another 19 were additionally selected by NETC to repair. None of the items are state, OSHS or environmental issues. For details about these repairs, see the November 19 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
