COVID-19 has been the top story for 2020, not only in Franklin County, but around the world. The coronavirus has not discriminated, but has affected all people regardless of race, age, economic situation or creed.
Of the 10,766 people estimated to live in Franklin County (new census numbers are not available), 307 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and 12 of those have died. Those County citizens who have contracted the disease account for 2.85 percent of the population, but 100 percent of the population has been affected by the disruption of life. See the Year in Review story in the January 7 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald for a run down of top stories during 2020.
