The dream of bringing fiber optic cable to rural areas today is being compared to that of rural electrification a century ago. It is being tied to practically all aspects of life, from health care delivery methods to general public safety, from general information distribution to the way we educate our children and the workforce already in place, and from specific job creation to general economic growth for rural communities. The fiber optic cable being laid in and around Mount Vernon by Peoples Telcom, Inc. is part of the plan to bridge that gap and continue telecommunications improvements.
