Gamez crowned 2015 queen

Abstinence program to be previewed for parents

Parents of eighth and 10th grade students at Mount Vernon ISD are being encouraged to attend a parent preview night of the ESTEEM abstinence program on Monday, February 2 at 6 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

Intermediate school nominated for National Blue Ribbon honor

The staff at Mount Vernon Intermediate SchoolThe Mount Vernon Intermediate School has been nominated by the Commissioner of Education, Michael Williams, as a National Blue Ribbon School (NBRS). Only 26 of the 9,300 schools in the state were nominated for this honor.

Bids expected next week for school’s $14 million bond project

Bids for the construction of the Mount Vernon ISD gym and field house, the science and fine arts renovations, and the repaving of the district’s roadways are due next Thursday, January 22.

National Beta qualifier

Monika WartenbeeMonika Wartenbee, a senior at Saltillo High School, will represent Texas at the National Beta Convention this summer in Nashville, Tenn. She received third place in creative writing at the State Beta Convention in San Antonio on January 9-10.

Superintendent’s contract not renewed by school board

Superintendent John Kaufman’s contract with Mount Vernon ISD was not renewed by the school’s Board of Trustees on a 4-3 vote on Monday, January 12.

FFA representatives

Hylke Talsma, Jocee NealHylke Talsma was elected as the FFA Paris District Vice President and Jocee Neal was elected to represent the district an an Area officer at the district convention on Thursday, January 15.
