Band marching along

Members of the Mighty Tiger Marching Band are in their second full week of band campMembers of the Mighty Tiger Marching Band are in their second full week of band camp and have been practicing on the student parking lot behind the school. A total of 85 students have been attending camp to create half-time entertainment for Tiger followers.

Safety is stressed for drivers and pedestrians

Classes begin at area schools on Monday, August 20, and parents, drivers, and students are cautioned to be extra cautious in school zones and parking lots.

Meet the Teacher dates set, area classes resume Aug. 20 or 27

Classes will resume at area schools with Mount Vernon and Sulphur Bluff on August 20 and Saltillo on August 27. For a listing of dates for Meet the Teacher events at these districts, see the August 9 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.

Meal programs continue, cafeteria rates rise slightly

Mount Vernon ISD will participate in the free and reduced-price meals program again this year, and cafeteria rates have risen.
