Saltillo welcomes five new teachers

Saltillo ISD welcomed five new teachers last week for their 2014-15 school year. Corrie Byrd of Mount Vernon will join the high school team. He will teach physics, IPC science, biology, and finance.
Attendance at MVISD increases from last year

Attendance for the first day of school at Mount Vernon ISD increased by 21 students from the first day of classes last year. Enrollment decreased at each of the other area school districts.
Updated shot records for students needed prior to school

All students at Mount Vernon ISD must be up to date on their immunizations prior to the start of school on Monday, August 25. Updated shot records can be dropped off at the Elementary or Intermediate school clinics or any campus office.

Four new teachers at Winfield ISD

Four new faces were introduced at Winfield ISD for the 2014-15 school year. Maria Monica Ramirez will teach first grade, Kristin Rainey will teach third grade, J.R. McGee will teach junior high language arts, and Geremy Anderson will teach fourth and fifth grade math and science.
Meal programs continue, cafeteria rates rise slightly

Mount Vernon ISD will participate in the free and reduced-price meals program again this year, and cafeteria rates have risen slightly. Last year, more than 70 percent of students at MVISD qualified for the free or reduced meals program.

Cheerleaders win awards at camp

The Mount Vernon Junior Cheerleaders for 2014-15 attended the NCA Leadership Camp at East Texas Baptist University last month and earned a Spirit Stick every night of camp for their attitude and effort during that day.

Twenty-four new faces were introduced at Mount Vernon ISD for the 2014-15 school year this week. A total of 17 will be at the elementary, two at the intermediate school, one in the junior high, three at the high, and one will be district wide.

Classes will resume at area schools including Mount Vernon, Saltillo, Sulphur Bluff, and Winfield on Monday, August 25. Each school has set their own schedules for preparing their teachers and new staff, and Meet the Teacher dates have been set.
