Students at Mount Vernon Intermediate School have been participating in the Million Word Challenge reading contest since early October. Students were challenged to read one million words in AR testable books throughout the school year.
Studies show that children who read one million words per year expand their vocabulary by up to 30,000 new words, which in turn helps them to become more successful readers and learners For more information, see the December 19 edition of the Mount Vernon Optic-Herald.
