Funeral services for Leon Truett Lester, age 91 of Winnsboro, were at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro. Burial was in the Bethel Cemetery with Dr. David Rose and Bro. Larry Ramsour officiating.
Mr. Lester was born July 28, 1921 in Franklin County to Rev. George D. Lester and Argus Tibbs Lester. He served in the United States Airforce during World War II and was a retired Liaison. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winnsboro, where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Gus Garrison Masonic Lodge in Winnsboro and the Eastern Star. He was a member of the Northeast Texas Forestry Association, where he was a past president. He volunteered at the Trinity Mother Francis Hospital in Winnsboro.
He died Tuesday, July 2. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Dalton Lester and K. P. Lester, and a sister, Loveta Swanner.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Olson Lester of Winnsboro; his sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Brenda Lester of Scroggins, George W. and Julie Lester of Newsome, and Paul and Kim Lester of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Ruth Lester Deaton of Tomball; his sisters-in-law, Juanita Lester and Irene Reynolds; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mark Lester, Charles Deaton, Tate Lester, Elliott Lester, Jim Wiley, and John McCauley.
