Funeral services for Gladys McDonough Branch, age 104 of Mount Vernon, were at 11 a.m Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at the Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Shannon Hassel and Rev. Reginald McDonough officiating.
Burial was at the Mount Vernon City Cemetery.
Mrs. Branch was born on July 16, 1909 in Alexandria, La., the daughter of Milton and Ida White. She married J. C. “Mack” McDonough, and he preceded her in death in 1959. She married Loyd Branch in 1961, and he preceded her in death on January 5, 1998. Mrs. Branch was a school teacher having taught English and girls’ basketball at Spring Hill High School. She received her bachelors degree from Louisiana Normal, now Northwestern State University, and received her masters from East Texas State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church Mount Vernon.
She died Thursday, Oct. 17 at Mission Manor Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her parents and twin brother, G.M. White, her brothers, Alphues White, Jesse White, and Benny White, and one sister, Joy Wattis.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Reginald McDonough of Crossville, Tenn.; two daughters, Evelyn Cole of White Hall, Ark. and Myrna Wright of Blooming Grove, Tex.; seven grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Col. David Cole, Dr. Richard Cole, Michael McDonough, Troy Cole, Jim Wright and Jay Reynolds.
