Funeral services for Luther Leon Dennis, age 81 of Irving, were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Brown’s Memorial Chapel in Irving. Rev. Jack Wallace, minister for the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, officiated.
Mr. Dennis was born Jan. 18, 1932 in Saltillo to Martin Luther and Leona Vivian Dennis. He married Margaret Louise Davis Sept. 10, 1955. They had four children.
Mr. Dennis attended East Texas State and El Centro College. He served in the Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Trathen, DD530. After his military service, Mr. Dennis served as a police officer in Sulphur Springs for two years. He joined the Dallas Police Department in 1960 and remained there until his retirement in 1982.
He died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013 at the Northgate Plaza Nursing Home in Irving, Tex.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 2000, a son, Michael, in Oct. 2013, and a brother, Martin Duane Dennis, in 1937.
He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Dennis and Sherrie of Irving; two sons, David Dennis and Diane, and Matthew Dennis, all of Irving; a sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Vivian Dennis-Monzingo and Dr. Montie Monzingo of Rockwall; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
