W. D. “Red” Barnett

A Masonic graveside service for W. D. “Red” Barnett will be at the Yantis Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014. with Rev. Bruce Stinson of the Central Baptist Church officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at Murray Orwaski Funeral Home, 419 Gilmer St., Sulphur Springs.
Mr. Barnett was born June 21, 1925 in Hopkins County Texas, son of John Robert Barnett and Eppie Nora Nichols Barnett. He retired after a career working as a brick layer for Lone Star Steel. Mr. Barnett served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a past worshipful master of Sulphur Springs Masonic Lodge #221 and a member of the Central Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs.
 He died Feb. 2 in a VA Hospital in Dallas, after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Barnett was preceeded in death by a brother, R. V. Barnett, and his parents.
He is survived by a brother, Horrace Ray Barnett of Mount Vernon; two sisters, Lois Roberts of Italy, Tex., and Francine Clark of Garland; a sister-in-law, Mary Francis Barnett of Sulphur Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial or to Central Baptist Church.
