Ben Warren MorrisBen Warren Morris, age 84, a longtime resident of Mount Vernon, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Greenville Gardens Nursing Home in Greenville, TX.

Ben was born on June 18, 1933 in Nevada, Texas to the late Richard Herman and Evelyn Stinebaugh Morris. Following high school, Ben proudly served in the Texas National Guard.
Ben married his best friend and constant supporter, Mildred Patricia Blevins, on July 29, 1951 in Gainesville, Texas. Together they spent the 63 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2014.
Ben was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vernon. He worked in electronic sales for much of his life but had some of his best memories as the owner and operator of Western Auto in Mount Vernon. Ben also enjoyed the 19 years he drove a school bus for Mount Vernon ISD. He was the President of the Quarterback Club and a longtime member of the Mount Vernon Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce. In his free time Ben enjoyed wood working. Those who knew him best will always remember him for the love and dedication he had to his beloved wife and the pride he took in the successes of his children and grandchildren.
Ben is survived by two sons, James W. Morris, and wife Jamie, of Fredericksburg, Texas and Robert L. Morris, and wife Vicki, of McKinney, Texas; by one daughter, Connie Sue Hayes, and husband Bill, of Lubbock; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Sid R. Morris, and wife June, of Garland; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.
A graveside service will be at 4 p.m., Friday, October 20, 2017 at Mount Vernon City Cemetery with Pastor Pepper Puryear officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday afternoon, at Sam B. Harvey Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Red Cross.
