James “ Jim” Richard Skelly

James “Jim” Richard Skelly of Saltillo passed away on Friday, March 16, 2018 in Dallas.

He was born July 30, 1949 in Grand Forks, ND and was the son of Donald Eugene Skelly Sr. and Elizabeth Ruby Fischer Skelly - both deceased. Jim graduated from Columbia Heights High School in Minnesota.  He married Christine Ann Dennis on May 14, 1974 in Robinsdale, Minnesota, and they moved to Texas in 1978. The love of his life, Chris, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2017.
He is survived by his daughter, Megan Elizabeth Skelly; his siblings Chris Winger, Don Skelly (Don Swick), Mary Berg, Lisa Brown, Margie Berardi (Steve); his mother-in-law Ardys Nelsen Dennis; brother-in-law Nelsen Dennis (Kate); nieces and nephews - Leroy, David, Jennifer, Donald, Tina, Stephen, Christian, Lucas, and Patrick; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Jim Skelly, known to friends as “Skelly”, worked for Luminent Monticello Mine, Winfield South, and was a member of IBEW Local 2337, Mount Pleasant, Texas for 39 years (1978-2017), a union steward for many years; he served as a representative on many committees and held numerous membership positions. He served as Executive Board Vice-President for five years (2005-2007) and (2008-2011). He also worked as Assistant Business Manager for a short time in 2013. He was Executive Board President for one year (2007-2008).
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working with his computer, and traveling. He assisted Chris with her work as Historian of the Old Saltillo Cemetery, and after Chris’s death, Jim was appointed to be the Historian for the Cemetery Association.
A Celebration of Life will be held for James “Jim” Skelly on Sunday afternoon, April 29, 2018 at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 411 East Industrial Drive, Sulphur Springs, Texas, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  He will be laid to rest at the Old Saltillo Cemetery.
