Sammy Leroy Moore

Sammy Leroy MooreSammy Leroy Moore, 70 years young, left us Monday, August 27, 2018, at his home in Daingerfield, surrounded by his family

. Born February 20, 1948, in Rockford, Illinois, son of Raymond and Alline (Smith) Moore. Sam married Dixie Sloan on September 1, 1979, and she was the love of his life. Sam graduated from a small rural school in Clover Bend, Arkansas, in 1966 with dreams of someday being a high school basketball coach. After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University, he realized that dream and went on to coach for 16 years, in Dublin and Saltillo, taking many of his teams to the finals at regional and state tournaments. He became “Coach” to all that knew him and is still “Coach” to this day. Sam had many passions but none so dear as his competitive love of racing go-carts. He could make an engine do amazing things and he loved the annual family cart racing. We will all miss seeing that big smile, especially the one displayed as he was picking up his first-place trophy from his brother. He was so proud of both his boys and would lovingly marvel at how well they turned out “despite his parenting skills.” His grandchildren and many nieces and nephews were also a source of great pride. We will all miss him.
Sam is survived by his wife, Dixie; son, Randy (Teresa); grandchildren, Bradley, Kendra, Kristine (Zach) and Clayton; great-granddaughter, Gracey; son, Sammy (Jill); grandchildren, Conner, Brady, and Cole; twin sister, Sandra Sue (Ken) Welsh; nephews, Todd and Scott Welch; great-niece and nephew, McKenzie, Rase Emerson, Palmer; brother, Robert (Becky) Moore, niece and nephew, Billy Moore and Jenna (Jasen) Elder; great-nephews, Izaac, Jacob, Jaxson, and Carter; sister, Penny (Charlie) DeMastes; niece and nephew, Cindy (Kevin) Crabtree and Jason DeMastes; great-nieces, June Crabtree, and Faye DeMastes. Sam had many cousins and a large group of friends who will also miss him dearly.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Alline Moore and brother Albert Moore, all of whom were taken way too soon, but are now having a glorious reunion in heaven.
Graveside services will be 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018, at Woodlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Hughes Springs. There will be a time of visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
