Laddie Landers, II

Funeral services for Laddie Dee Landers, II of Mount Pleasant, were at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant. Burial was in the Greenhill Cemetery with Bro. Jim Parker officiating.
Mr. Landers graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1965. Upon graduation, he attended the University of North Texas and later graduated from Texas A&M University - Commerce in 1975 where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and served as the president from 1974 to 1975.
He was called to serve in the armed forces in 1968 and completed basic training at For Bliss, Tex. He was stationed at Fort Hauchuca, Ariz. and then Fort Benjamin, Harrison, Ind., where he earned his finance specialist classification, SP4. He ended his tour of duty in Ausberg, Germany. In 1975, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserve. In the fall of 1976 to June 1977, he taught and coached basketball for Rivercrest ISD. He began his career with the Texas Department of Human Services as district supervisor for Child Protective Services in Franklin County and served until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the North Ridge church of Christ. He died Sunday, July 4. He was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by two sisters and their spouses, Penny and Robert Luetge and Jeri and Eddie Gray, all of Mount Pleasant; a nephew and his spouse, three nieces and their spouses, five great-nephews, two great-nieces, an uncle, three aunts, a special friend, and a host of other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Jimmy Adams, Randy Clark, Edward Florey, John D. Hays, Herbie Hogg, Billy Ralph Johnson, Dane Owens, Rocky Russel, and Jay Stephenson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, Allan Bryant, and Troy Alders. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thelma Lee Anders Nursing Scholarship or to the L. D. “Jabo” Landers Veterans Scholarship, both through Northeast Texas Community College.
