Elton Cates

Elton Cates died Saturday, Feb. 26 at Windzor Place Nursing Home in Daingerfield after a lengthy illness.
Cremation arrangements were handled by Harvey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A private memorial ceremony will be conducted for  the family at a later date.
Mr. Cates was born  June 27, 1931 to L.V. “Jack” Cates and Velma (Lee) Cates in Franklin County. He was raised by his maternal grandparents Rosa and Robert E. Lee.
He married Linda (Abernathy) Forson Nov. 15, 1988. They were members of the Turkey Creek Baptist Church.
He worked for Lone Star Steel Company from 1957 until his retirement in 1993. He had a small ranching operation for a number of years. Prior to falling ill, he worked as a baker at Glen-Mary Farms Bakery in Hughes Springs.
Mr. Cates was preceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, Floyd and Dixie (Brymer) Cates, a wife, Louise Cates, in May 1988, a brother, Raymond Cates, in 1974, and a stepson, Michael Hosmer, in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Frankie Cates of Minden, La.; a daughter, Judy Cates-Royal and husband, Ray, of Zwolle, La.; a stepdaughter, Melanie Wade and husband, Charlie of Houston; two stepsons, Steve Hosmer and wife, Teresa, of Mineola and Matthew Hosmer, and wife Carla, of White Oak. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
