Memorial services for Joan Temple Galt, age 88 of Dallas, formerly of Mount Vernon, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at SparkmanHillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas.
Private burial will be at a later date at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
She was born to Jessebelle Barry and James “Foxy” Temple. She began her marriage of 53 years to Dr. Jabez Galt in 1949, while her father was mayor of Dallas. Her grandparents and great grandparents were early residents of Dallas. She graduated from the Hockaday School and the University of Texas. She was know for her philanthropy toward many local Franklin County organizations.
She died Saturday, Feb. 23.
She is survived by her son, Bryan Temple Galt, a granddaughter, a great-granddaughter, and a great-great-granddaughter, a brother, James Temple of Colorado, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stewpot Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity, or any charity that helps animals.
