Funeral services for Nyla Jean Gross, age 86 of Lone Oak, formerly of Mount Vernon, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Jack Wallace and Rev. Pete Adrian officiating.
Mrs. Gross was born Nov. 29, 1926 in Hinsdale, Ill. to Leslie Charles Dobson and Lydia Laast. She married Vernon Gross on April 30, 1948 in Tennessee. She was a finance administrator at the First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon and was the housing office manager at Southern Oregon State College. She was adventerous, having ridden a camel at the age of 85. She was a Stephen Minister at First United Methodist in Mount Vernon where she held her membership until she moved to Lone Oak, where she joined Lone Oak United Methodist Church.
She died Wednesday, Feb. 20 in Lone Oak. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon, in 2010, a son, Larry Gross, a brother, Leslie Dobson, and four sisters, Dobbie Stadt, Virginia Walter, Betty Kottas, and Sylvia Brady.
Pallbearers were Raymond Gross, Randy Durham, Robert Durham, Stan Green, Don Lowe, and Ray Young.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Churches of Mount Vernon or Lone Oak, or to Hospice Plus in Greenville.
